Lacey Lewis

Artist Statement

"In my word I explore feminine sensuality. At first I explore these themes by focusing on portraits of neo-burlesque performers, though more recently my focus has shifted toward the erotic feminine in every day people of both genders and in nature."

Lacey Lewis is internationally known for her rich paintings of burlesque and sideshow performers. Her work has been exhibited at Peter Walker Fine Art in Adelaide, Australia, MEAM Museum in Barcelona, Spain, The Salmagundi Club in New York City and in the inaugural Painting Women Show at Robert Lange Studios, Charleston, South Carolina. In 2015 Lewis was awarded a residency with the Art Students League with a full scholarship to work with New York City’s world-famous burlesque stars.

Lewis studied art primarily through workshops at The Art Students League of NY and Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia. She has also spent time studying with Steven Assael, Max Ginsburg, Robert Liberace, David Kassan, Daniel Sprick, Graydon Parrish and Romel de la Torre. Spending her formative years in Syracuse, NY, she moved to Kansas City. In 2009 she founded Red Door Studios that is now called the Lacey Lewis School of Realist Art. Lacey teaches classes, workshops and hosts life drawing groups at the school.
