Xenia Hausner

Artist Statement

"In my work I don’t present clear solutions, the situations are deliberately ambivalent and show fragments of a larger story. There is the fiction of these works that makes it possible for me to apprehend underlying truths and reveal them visually."

Biography

Xenia Hausner was born in Vienna, Austria. She studied stage design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and designed numerous stage sets for theater and opera productions, including works for Covent Garden London and the Salzburg Festival. She only recently returned to the Berlin State Opera with a new production of „Rosenkavalier“ with Zubin Metha.

Since 1992 she has been dedicating herself to painting in her Berlin studio. She lives and works in Vienna and in Berlin. Xenia Hausner’s work has been exhibited internationally in numerous galleries and museums in Berlin, Vienna, New York, St. Petersburg, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Sydney and Venice. Her works have been shown at art fairs and museums such as Albertina (Vienna), Batliner Art Foundation (Berlin), Belvedere Museum (Vienna), PalaisPopulaire by Deutsche Bank (Berlin), Käthe-Kollwitz-Museum (Berlin), Museum Würth France Erstein, Würth Collection (Oslo), European Central Bank (Frankfurt), Russian State Museum (St. Petersburg), Shanghai Art Museum, Today Art Museum (Beijing), Hong Kong Arts Centre, collateral to the 57th Venice Biennale 2017 in „Glasstress" Palazzo Franchetti (Venice); Bienalsur Cúcuta (Colombia), At 8th Moscow Biennale, and the State Tretyakov Gallery.
